You don’t need to be an athlete, and you don’t need to like the cold. Several services at NOLA Chill are seated or lying down, and for most of them you keep your clothes on. Staff set you up and explain each step. People of all ages visit, including clients in their 80s and 90s.

Also available, after a quick screening

  • Private infrared sauna. A warm room for 30 minutes ($30) or 45 minutes ($40). Bring your spouse or a friend: $48 for two for 30 minutes.
  • Localized cryotherapy. Brief cold air on one area, such as a knee or elbow, in a 10-minute appointment for $35. What a session is like.

Tell us before you book

  • If you have a heart, blood pressure or heat-sensitivity condition, or take medicine that affects heat tolerance, check with your doctor before the sauna.
  • Before Celluma, mention any photosensitizing medicine, a recent steroid injection, seizure history or known cancer.
  • New or unexplained swelling, redness, warmth or pain, especially in one leg, needs a doctor’s check before compression.
  • Staff screen every client before cryotherapy.

We’re a wellness studio, not a medical clinic. New, severe or unexplained pain deserves a medical visit first.

Questions

What’s the gentlest service at NOLA Chill? Hydromassage and NormaTec compression. You stay dressed, you lie back or sit, and you control the pressure. Each is $30 for 30 minutes.

Is cryotherapy OK for older adults? Staff screen every cryotherapy client before a session, and some health conditions mean it isn’t a fit. If you have a heart or blood pressure condition, check with your doctor first. Hydromassage and NormaTec involve no cold at all.

Do I keep my clothes on? Yes for Hydromassage, NormaTec and NuCalm. For Celluma, the light panel goes over clean, bare skin on the area you choose.

Wasn’t cryotherapy invented for arthritis? Whole body cryotherapy was first developed in Japan in the late 1970s by a doctor treating patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Research since then is limited and mixed. At NOLA Chill it’s a wellness service, not a treatment for arthritis or any other condition, so if you have arthritis, check with your doctor before cryotherapy.
